Vietnam Airlines offers a wide selection of special meals to suit different dietary styles. All special meals must be booked at least 24 hours in advance of your flight.


AVML: Vegetarian Hindu Meal
Recommended for: Asian/Hindu vegetarians
Prohibited: meat, fish, fowl, lard or gelatin and egg

VJML: Vegetarian Jain Meal
Recommended for: Jain vegetarians
Prohibited: meat, poultry, seafood, fish, eggs, dairy products, root and bulbous vegetables.

VGML: Vegetarian Vegan Meal
Recommended for: strict vegetarians
Prohibited: animal products, meat, seafood, fish, fowl, lard, gelatin, eggs, dairy products and honey

VLML: Vegetarian Lacto-Ovo Meal
Recommended for: Non-meat eaters (dairy and eggs acceptable)
Prohibited: meat, seafood, fish, fowl, lard and gelatin.

VOML: Vegetarian Oriental Meal
Recommended for: Eastern vegetarians
Prohibited: meat, poultry, seafood, fish, eggs, dairy products, root and bulbous vegetables.


BBML: Baby Meal
Recommended for: infants and toddlers under 2 years old.
Prohibited: highly seasoned foods, foods containing wheat, gluten, fish, eggs and citrus fruit. Pork, veal, beef, bone-in meats, and solid food are not recommended for children under 1 year old.

CHML: Child Meal
Recommended for: children aged 2 to 5 years old.
Prohibited: fish with bone, meat with bone, nuts and seeds, highly seasoned foods, rich sauces, hard candy, whole grapes.


HNML: Brahman Meal
Recommended for: passengers adhering to Hindu customs
Prohibited: beef, veal, pork, raw and smoked fish.
Note: AVML (Vegetarian Hindu Meal) is automatically assigned if a Hindu Meal is requested

KSML: Kosher Meal
Recommended for: passengers adhering to Jewish customs
Prohibited: food items which are not chosen, prepared and served in accordance with kosher standards.

MOML: Halal Meal
Recommended for: passengers adhering to Islamic customs.
Prohibited: pork, pig by-products, gelatin, alcohol, flavoring extracts with alcohol, non-white fish meat from species without scales or fins.

Note: on flights between Vietnam and Malaysia, Vietnam Airlines has the pleasure of serving you halal food prepared in compliance with the hygiene requirements of Islamic Dietary Law


BLML: Bland Meal
Recommended for: passengers suffering from stomach or intestinal problems.
Prohibited: highly seasoned foods, black pepper, chili powder, “gassy” vegetables such as cabbage and cauliflower, caffeinated beverages, fried foods.

DBML: Diabetic Meal (Low Sugar, No Added Sugar)
Recommended for: diabetic passengers
Prohibited: fried food

GFML: Gluten Intolerant Meal
Other name: Low Gluten/Low Gliadin/Gluten-Restricted/Low Wheat/Coeliac Disease/Non-Tropical Sprue/Dermatitis Herpetiformis).
Recommended for: gluten intolerant passenger
Prohibited: wheat, wheat flour, rye, oats and barley, pasta, bread, bread crumbs and batter, oat-based breakfast cereals, semolina, soup, sauce, soy sauce and gravy mixes made with flour, cakes, muffins, pastries, malt products, Ovaltine, starch derived from cereals containing gluten, custard powder, luncheon meats, meat substitutes, sausages, confectionery sugar, chocolate, cereals containing gluten, nuts and nut products

Note: not suitable for passengers with gluten allergies.

LCML: Low Calorie Meal
Recommended for: passengers adhering to calorie-restrictive diets
Prohibited: fried foods, added fats, oils, sugar, gravy, sauces and rich desserts.

LFML: Low Fat Meal (Low Cholesterol/Fat-Restricted/Gall Bladder Diet/Low Saturated Fat)
Recommended for: passengers adhering to fat-restrictive diets
Prohibited: fried foods, sauces high in fat, egg yolks, offal, seafood, fish roe and caviar, added fats, oils, alcohol-refined sugars, processed meats, processed cheese.

LSML: Low Salt Meal
Recommended for: passengers adhering to sodium-restrictive diets
Prohibited: salt substitutes, MSG, stocks, bouillon cubes, commercial soups and sauce mixes, salted items, smoked or cured meats, packaged foods, items in brine, processed cheese, olives, anchovies, bakery products using self-rising flour or baking soda, most condiments (ketchup, mustard, BBQ sauce, soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, seasoned salt), gravy, sauces and dressings, garlic, onion, celery salts and bread products.

NLML: Low Lactose Meal.
Recommended for: lactose intolerant passengers
Prohibited: milk and dairy products and any foods containing such products
Note: not suitable for cow milk allergic passengers.


FPML: Fruit Platter Meal
Recommended for: passengers requesting no additives/preservatives
Prohibited: additives and preservatives.

RVML: Vegetarian Raw Meal
Recommended for: raw vegetable vegetarians
Prohibited: caffeinated beverages, highly processed foods, additives, preservatives.

SFML: Seafood Meal
Recommended for: passengers requesting seafood items
Including fish and/or seafood prepared according to local specifications.

On flights between Vietnam and Malaysia, halal food prepared in compliance with hygiene requirements according to Islamic Dietary Law is available to our passengers.


Alternative meals are only available by pre-order.

Vietnam Airlines is unable to supply special meals on some routes where there is not adequate time to prepare them; special meals are not available on flights without in-flight dining service; please contact your booking agent for more details.
Special meals must be pre-ordered and confirmed 24 hours prior to departure; some special meals such as the kosher meals are only available on select flights and must be pre-ordered and confirmed 72 hours prior to departure.
If you change your route or flight schedule, please be sure your special meal has been re-ordered and confirmed in accordance with your new itinerary.
